The Case for Qilin Counsel

What a structured approach to legacy makes possible

Most people put off legacy thinking not because they do not care, but because no one has offered them a clear and calm way in. That is what Qilin Counsel provides.

Six reasons participants choose us

Clear orientation from the first session

Participants consistently describe the first session as the first time they have had a structured frame for thinking about legacy — not just an open-ended conversation.

Hong Kong-specific content throughout

Every module reflects the legal, administrative, and philanthropic context of Hong Kong — not a generic international framework adapted for local use.

A written document you leave with

Full programme participants produce a personal legacy document — reviewed, refined, and theirs to keep, revisit, and share in whatever form they choose.

No obligation to proceed further

Each course is complete in itself. There is no path designed to lead participants toward a product, a service provider, or a follow-on engagement.

Cohorts small enough to matter

Eight participants per cohort. The conversations that happen at that scale are qualitatively different from a lecture or a webinar — and that difference is the point.

Paced for a full life

Sessions meet fortnightly. Between sessions, reflection exercises are short and voluntary. The programme is built around the reality of busy midlife schedules.

In Depth

Each benefit, examined more carefully

Expertise

Professional Background

Our lead facilitator holds over two decades of experience in private client services, with specific focus on intergenerational wealth conversations and family governance. Advisory contributions come from specialists in charitable foundation governance and adult education methodology.

  • 22+ years in private client and family wealth contexts
  • Charitable foundation governance across HK and mainland
  • Adult education qualifications at postgraduate level

Process

Proven Methodology

Our curriculum follows a sequence developed and refined across six years of delivery. It moves from values articulation to giving vehicles to family conversation frameworks — in that order, deliberately. Participants who have tried to do this work in reverse (starting with the legal structures) consistently report that beginning with the personal question yields much better results.

  • Values first, instruments second
  • Annual curriculum review reflecting HK regulatory changes
  • Reflection frameworks developed specifically for midlife contexts

Materials

Thoughtfully Designed

Programme materials — reading packs, case studies, comparison tables, and reflection prompts — are produced in-house and reviewed annually. They are written for a general adult audience, not a specialist one. We do not use third-party content platforms, and participant materials are not shared with advertisers or external parties of any kind.

Service

Attentive and Personal

Every enquiry receives a personal response — not a form letter, not an automated reply. We take time to understand what brought you to this question and whether our approach is likely to be a good fit. If it is not, we will say so and suggest what might be more useful.

Value

Transparent Pricing

Fees are stated clearly and cover all programme materials, facilitator time, and follow-up. There are no hidden costs, no referral fees built into the programme, and no commission arrangements with any financial or legal service provider. What you pay is what the programme costs.

  • Thinking About Legacy — HKD 1,680
  • Charitable Giving Foundations — HKD 2,580
  • Legacy & Giving Full Programme — HKD 3,250

What Sets Us Apart

Three things no other programme offers

01

The Legacy Document

Full programme participants produce a structured, personal legacy document — not a template filled in, but a document built through the programme and reviewed by our facilitator. It is theirs, permanently.

02

No downstream product

Many legacy and giving programmes exist as a pathway to a financial product or a referral to a wealth manager. Ours does not. We have no commercial relationships with service providers and take no referral fees.

03

Three-month reflection window

Participants may submit written reflections to our facilitator for up to three months after completing any programme. This is included in the fee, and it is often when the most useful thinking happens.
